Tara founded HOH back in 2012 with her wife Gemma Horrors, and although she didn’t begin her career in tattooing straight away, she has always had a great interest in the culture of Tattoos, receiving her first tattoo when she was only 15.
Throughout her teens and early 20s Tara held positions in a variety of jobs, including roles in management and the civil service. She even obtained BA degrees in History and Film Studies from The University of Hull before she began her self taught journey as a Tattoo Artist.
Being a creator at heart, Tara found her place in the tattoo industry early on and quickly accepted this as her future. She finally had an outlet and space to develop her creative and artistic nature and better still it happened to be doing something she already loved. Through hard work and dedication Tara was soon showcasing exceptional line work, and precision which has allowed her to grow a well known reputation in the North East for her stunning dotwork/geometric tattooing and her flawless blackout.
As well as being a dedicated Artist, Tara gives much of her time to teaching the next generation of Tattoo Artists at HOH, sharing with them her knowledge and experience whilst encouraging them to push boundaries and develop their own styles. Additionally, she oversees the advancement of the company and has been the driving force behind HOH’s recent expansion of the walk-in studio EightySixx. Not only has she been responsible for the concepts and planning but has personally renovated each studio herself.
Tara is looking forward to showcasing more of her blackwork tattooing in 2023, and will continue to implement and teach the fundamental values that have led the company to its success so far. Seeing endless potential in each team member and in both studios, her future goals align with her colleagues' professional aspirations too.
There are many different reasons people decide to go for blackout, but one of the most popular being to cover old tattoos that may be too big and/or too dark to cover as successfully another way.
Another reason is that it is a vibe all on its own, bold and striking but also subtle and discreet. Many people choose to get Blackout straight over clear skin, and even for their first tattoos.
ONCE. Many Artists do not usually stock and carry the tools necessary to tattoo large areas of blackout and this can sometimes lead to patchy, uneven work that requires multiple sessions going over and over the same areas. This not only puts the skin under more duress but increases the chances of healing complications and scarring. Other Artists simply do not like tattooing this style and therefore either do not bother or worse attempt it, unsuccessfully, and cause unnecessary pain, time, and money for their client.
Using the right Ink, Needles, Machines and Techniques I have developed over the years allows me to achieve smoothness in a single pass.
Of course everyone feels pain differently and certain areas hurt more than others but the actual act of tattooing itself does not hurt anymore than other tattoos. In fact, many people I have tattooed find it less painful due to the larger needle configuration and techniques I use.
